The tea towel is made from handwoven cotton by the women artisans at Chimmuwa. Chimmuwa is a part of Borderline Collective in Mae Sot, Thailand. The women artisan group was founded by Sylvia and Nor-Nor with the purpose of providing support and employment opportunities for young female migrants and refugees from Myanmar.
Hill tribes in villages in the Northern part of Thailand weave the cotton into beautiful patterns, and Chimmuwa then purchases the handwoven cotton fabric and turn it into really nice items such as these tea towels. In the video you can hear more about how the cotton fabric is produced.
